In 2009, over 40 schools took part in the inaugural KidSport™ Day 2009  that saw nearly 11,000 kids from across Alberta running, jumping and throwing! This special one-day event was established with the support of Premier Ed Stelmach and Minister of Culture and Community Spirit Lindsay Blackett, and was organized in conjunction with Arts Days. With additional program support provided by Athletics Alberta, a modified version of Athletics Canada's Run Jump Throw (RJT) program was developed to engage thousands of K - Grade 9 students across Alberta in physical activity sessions that will serve as a strong foundation for all sports.

A 3-year corporate sponsorship commitment from SUBWAY® was also established. As part of their commitment to healthy living and youth, the SUBWAY® restaurant chain hopes to help get kids off the sidelines and involved in a fun day of sport designed to promote health and physical activity.
