After a short break the 2012 Timex series got back under way in sunny and hot Edmonton.  Hosea (Kibet) Rutto and Ashley Hinther showed that they were the class of the fields by completely destroying their respective competition.

Rutto dipped under the 30 minute mark (29:58) to crush the old course record and beat his nearest rival by almost 5 minutes.  From the gun there was no question about who would win, just by how much.  The hopeful Concordia University College of Alberta student (still awaiting his student VISA) enjoyed this win a great deal after what has been a tough summer with injuries for the Kenyan born but Edmonton based runner.  "I need that" remarked Rutto to his coach Matt Norminton after the race.  Left in Rutto's wake was a battle for 2nd place and Calgary's Marc Collie (34:31) proved to be a bit too quick for Edmonton's Eric Wiebe (35:18) who had to settle for 3rd place for the 2nd year in a row.

On the women's side, a similar scene unfolded with new Edmontonian Ashley Hinther winning easily by over 5 minutes (37:50).  Hinther joins her long time boyfriend Sean Baynton here in Edmonton who will be heading up the UofA distance program beginning in September.  Melanie Musie of Edmonton grabbed the silver medal in a time of 43:18 while Teann Dhariwal, also from Edmonton, rounded out the top 3 ladies in a time of 44:53.

The next stop for the 2012 Timex Road Race series is down highway 2 to Calgary for the 2012 Dino Dash taking place this Saturday September 1st.  Best of luck to all competitors!
