Race #8 of the 2012 Athletics Alberta Timex Road Race series was held in Stoney Plain at the Rotary Run for Life 10k.  Mark Volmer of Guelph Ontario, who makes Edmonton his home during the summers, used this race as his 2012 farewell to the Edmonton running community and went out in style by winning the 10km race in 33:43.  2nd place went to master's competitor and Camrose resident Robert Renman who has been a consistent top 3 in the local running community for well over the past 10 years.  Renman had a good run, finishing the 10k course in 34:34 which was plenty to hold off Dusty Spiller of Red Deer who managed a 34:56 clocking on the day.

On the women's side, it was another masters runner who regularly graces the podium at running events across Alberta who picked up the win as Lisa Harvey cruised the 10km course in 38:06, almost 2 minutes ahead of her nearest rival.  Shanon Maisano was the next lady across line in 39:55 followed by Annette Henkel who rounded out the top 3 for the ladies.  The next and final stop for the 2012 Timex series is the Melissa's Road Race in Banff with 10km being used as the scoring distance.

Happy training!
Matt
