OTTAWA (May 17, 2013) – It is with profound sadness that the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) wishes to let our many partners and friends in the Canadian sport community know of the death last night of former CAC president Dr.

Athletics mourns the passing of Diana Stevens

Athletics Alberta is deeply sadden to report the sudden accidental death Wednesday of Diana Stevens, Executive Director of Athletics Manitoba. On behalf of the entire track and field community in Alberta and around Canada, we offer condolences to her family at this time.

Rest in peace, Diana.

Manitoba Track & Field Icon Passes Away

Dave Lyon, track and field icon, passed away on May 9, 2013. A native of Winnipeg, Dave was an outstanding athlete at Oklahoma Baptist University where he was the two-mile champion and placed fourth at the United States National Championships in 1961.

Athletics Canada formalizes technical and organizational leadership structure

On the heels of a complete organizational review Athletics Canada formalized today its technical and organizational structure to lead the organization through the next quadrennial.  Rob Guy, Athletics Canada Chief Executive Officer, "We conducted this review to ensure that we are, as indicated in our strategic plan, a world leading organization.  First and foremost I want to thank our stakeholders, our provincial branch members, and the athletics community who were heavily involved in the process."

Canadians in the IAAF World Top 10 Rankings

Matthew Hughes of Oshawa, Ont., registered a World leading performance in the men's 3000-metres steeplechase this past weekend at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Standford, California. At the same meet Alex Genest of Lac-aux-Sables, Que., registered a World Championship A standard and is ranked third in the World. Chris Winter of Vancouver, B.C., is in 6th.

Olympic Silver Medalists Richardson and Santos to compete at EITC

Edmonton...World Champion 110m hurdler Jason Richardson, of the USA, has confirmed his return for the Edmonton International Track Classic, taking on Jamaican hurdler Andrew Riley, who upset a strong field at the Drake Relays in Iowa, on April 26. Also making his Canadian debut is 400m sprinter, 2012 World Junior Champion Luguelín Santos of the Dominican Republic. The action happens at Foote Field Stadium on Saturday, June 29, between 10:30 - 1:30 PM.

Jennifer Joyce re-elected on Athletics Canada BOD

Congratulations to Jennifer Joyce who has been elected by her peers to the position of Female Athlete Representative on Athletics Canada’s Board of Directors.  Jennifer’s term will be from May 2013 to April 2015.

Jamaicans Yohan Blake & Veronica Campbell-Brown to Headline EITC

Jamaican Yohan Blake, the youngest 100m World Champion in history, has confirmed his return to the city for the Edmonton International Track Classic on June 29at Foote Field. Fellow Jamaican Veronica Campbell-Brown will make her Canadian debut at the event. Both athletes are coming off successful London Olympic Games performances where Blake won silver in the 100m and 200m sprints and gold in the 4x100m relay (world record), and Campbell-Brown took bronze in the 100m sprint and silver in the 4x100m relay.

NCAA Freshman from Alberta Breaks Canadian Junior Record in Heptathlon for the second time in one month

Having broken Jessica Zelinka's Canadian Junior Record in Heptathlon just over a month ago (March 15, 2013), Edmonton'sNiki Oudenaarden set the standard higher today (April 18, 2013) at the 2013 Mt SAC Relays/CA Invite competition being held at Azusa Pacific University.

A member of Edmonton's Capital City Track Club, now on full NCAA scholarship at San Diego State University (SDSU), posted the following performances to establish the new record score of 5774points while placing 2nd in this NCAA combined-event competition.
