U of A commits to high-performance athletics development

In an effort to develop high-performance track and field and cross-country programming in the Edmonton area, the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation (FPER), which houses Golden Bears and Pandas Athletics, has implemented a program restructuring.

Athlete registration for the 2012 Canadian Junior Track & Field Championships is now open.   The Championships take place in Winnipeg, Man., July 27 to 29 at the University of Manitoba.

Olympic & World Medalist Walter Dix to Headline the 200m at DBI

Edmonton...Walter Dix, the two-time Olympic Bronze and two-time World Silver Medalist is announcing that he will race at the Donovan Bailey Invitational on June 16 in Edmonton. Dix will headline a strong 200m field that is expected to eclipse the 20-second barrier, a feat that hasn't been accomplished on Canadian soil in the Edmonton 2001 IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

Countdown to 2012 Calgary Trials officially on

The countdown has begun as Canada’s best track and field athletes prepare for the 2012 Canadian Track and Field Trials, June 27 – 30 2012 at Foothills Athletic Park. The Trials serve as the selection meet for athletes hoping to qualify to the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games. The event will showcase Canada’s elite who have podium aspirations at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Athletics Canada confirms full funding for NACAC U-23 Championships team

Athletics Canada is pleased to announce today that the team representing Canada at the 2012 NACAC under 23 Athletics Championships will be fully funded, up to 43 individuals.  "The transition from junior to senior athlete is a difficult one, with this initiative we hope to remove financial barriers for athletes making this jump, said Rob Guy, Chief Executive Officer, Athletics Canada.

2012 Timex Series kicks off with St. Albert 10 Miler

The 2012 Timex Road Race Series got off to a cold and chilly start at the annual St.

Priscilla Lopes-Schliep to compete at DBI; to be joined by Phylicia George & Nikkita Holder

Edmonton - Priscilla Lopes-Schliep, the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist and multiple World medalist, has confirmed her participation in the Donovan Bailey Invitational on Saturday, June 16. This marks the 2012 season debut of the 2010 Diamond League Champion and former World No. 1 in Canada. Lopes-Schliep is returning to action after giving birth to daughter Nataliya in September 2011.

2012 Athletics Alberta AGM update

April 14, 2012 (Red Deer) - A reminder to the club membership that the 2012 AGM is scheduled to be held in Red Deer at the Red Deer Lodge Hotel and Conference Centre, starting at at 10am.

The Board, Committee Members and Staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have at the Annual General Meeting tomorrow morning (April 14th). Please be advised that updated documentation has been posted all week and will be made available at the AGM for your reference.

Athletics Alberta Provincial Office will be closed on Friday, April 6 and will re-open on Tuesday, April 10.
