The Royal Canadian Legion, in association with Athletics Canada, is proud to announce the 2010 Legion Canadian Youth Track & Field Championships. This year’s event will be held at the Terry Fox Field in Ottawa, ON between 4-10 August. Competition dates are set for 8-9 August.

The Legion Canadian Youth Track & Field Championships now combines the Legion under 15 (U15) and under 17 (U17) programs with an open Midget (age 15 and under) & Youth concept (age 16 - 17 and under). Provincial commands will still send teams to compete in the U15 and U17 categories, but eligible additional athletes may compete in the U17 category.

Technical information and registration packages for the Legion Canadian Youth Athletic Championships will be available by the end of April. Registration for the Championships will begin in May. Athletes who wish to take advantage of the Legion team program should contact their local branch or applicable Provincial Command office. Those in both the U15 & U17 categories who wish to compete as an open athlete will have to register through Athletics Canada.

This event is nationally sanctioned by Athletics Canada and many Canadian track and field stars who have participated in the Legion program have gone on to world and Olympic glory.  Approximately 80% of Canada's national track and field team have participated in the Legion program. Alberta & NWT Command Provincial Team - Changes for 2010

Due to external circumstances, the AB/NWT Command of the Royal Canadian Legion have confirmed that the Legion Track & Field Camp be put into obeyance for 2010. However, the Youth Committee (of the AB/NWT Command) and Athletics Alberta, in partnership, will work collaboratively to pick the athletes and coaches (up to 37 athletes and 3 coaches) to attend the 2010 Legion Canadian Youth Track & Field Championships in Ottawa, ON.

The Legion Team has been announced, please see the team list below.  There are alternates who will be added in the event of an athlete on the team is unable to attend the competition, alternates will be notified if a situation arises.  All athletes named to the team or named as alternates must return the Legion Team Profile Form by July 14, 2010.  Athletes will be departing for Ottawa on August 4, 2010 and returning to Alberta on August 10, 2010, please see Legion flight list for details.  Athletes will be staying at the the University of Ottawa dorms, bed linens will be provided but athletes will need to bring a towel and personal toiletries.
